A surf holiday feels much less stressful when you know exactly what your day will look like. At our surf school Essaouira the rhythm is simple: we live with the tide, the swell and the trade winds. In the early morning one of our instructors walks the promenade with a coffee, checking the sandbanks and the size of the waves. At the same time we read the latest charts for swell direction and wind. By the time you arrive at the school, we already know which part of the bay will give your group the smoothest, safest rides.
After a short briefing we walk down to the water and run a two- to two-and-a-half-hour session. Then the surfboards go back on the rack and the whole focus of the day moves into the medina. We recommend fish grilled at the port, fresh orange juice in the square, or a slow tagine on a riad rooftop. In the afternoon the wind belongs to the kites and windsurfers while you explore the alleys, buy a handmade board bag or simply rest. At sunset many guests meet us on the ramparts above the port to watch the Atlantic turn gold and talk about tomorrow’s waves. That is a complete day at a local surf school Essaouira: ocean, culture and time to breathe.
