Many guests write to us saying “I am not a good swimmer, can I still try?” The answer is yes, as long as we are honest together about your limits. In the Essaouira bay we can run lessons in very shallow water where you can stand comfortably between each wave. Our Essaouira Surf School provides thick, buoyant boards and wetsuits that add extra flotation. We stay close, hold the tail of your board and practise just sliding a few metres toward the beach.
Over the days your confidence grows. You learn to trust the board, to feel how the waves move and to relax when you fall. Some students are happy to stay in water up to their waist; others feel ready to paddle slightly deeper once they see how safe the bay is. The goal is not to force progression, but to give you a positive first relationship with the ocean.
