Winter Surf School Essaouira: Why We Teach All Year Round

Winter in Essaouira is cooler but rarely extreme. Water temperatures hover around 16–18°C and air temperatures during the day are often mild. With a 4/3 mm wetsuit and sometimes boots, you can surf comfortably for two hours in the bay. Our surf school Essaouira continues teaching through December, January and February because the waves are often at their best: stronger swell, emptier line-ups and beautiful light.

We shorten sessions slightly for children, provide hot tea after the lesson and choose times of day when the sun is highest. Many intermediate surfers love winter here precisely because it is quieter. If you don’t mind wearing a thicker wetsuit, winter surfing in Essaouira can be your favourite season.
