Essaouira and the bay
The Wind City has steady wind, mainly from April to October, and swell through the year. Mornings are usually the better surf window, before the breeze builds. Afternoons suit kite and wing.
- Sandy bay — side-shore wind, along the beach, for first steps.
- Other spots — Sidi Kaouki, about 25 minutes south, once the level allows.
Surf, kitesurf and wingfoil lessons
Surf
Foam boards first, then livelier boards. Groups up to 6, about 2 hours: stance, paddling, take-off and right of way. Group from €30 for 2 hours, board and wetsuit included. Surf school.
Kitesurf
IKO instructors. Kite on the sand, bodydrag, waterstart, then reaches and upwind. Semi-private (2 students) or private. Group from €55 for 2 hours, kite, board, harness, helmet, vest and wetsuit included. Kitesurf school.
Wingfoil
Wing handling on a stable board first, then the foil. Learner gear is included in the lesson. Prices are on wingfoil lessons.
Gear rental
Rental is for riders who already go out alone. The quiver is renewed each season.
- Surf — €10 for board, leash and wetsuit, with a short briefing on the beach. Soft-tops, funboards, longboards and shortboards (Torq, NSP, Indio). Quiksilver and Roxy wetsuits. Surfboard rental.
- Kitesurf — €50 for 2 hours for the full pack (kite, bar, harness, leash, board). That price includes an instructor on site for the 2 hours. Duotone and North centre. Kite sizes follow the wind; in summer, 7 to 9 m is usual. Kitesurf in Essaouira.
- Wingfoil — €60 for 2 hours for wing, board, foil, boom and leash. Duotone and Fanatic gear. Wings about 3 to 6 m, boards about 80 to 140 L. Wingfoil in Essaouira.

Kitesurf and wingfoil: trade winds mainly April to October, with wind days in winter too. Surf: possible all year, more regular swell from September to March, often in the morning.
